HOW MUCH IS LEGAL FEE
We offer flat rate and hourly rate options for our services, and the legal fee is determinate based on some of following factors:
- the time and effort required and spent on the matter
- the difficulty of the matter
- the importance of the matter to the client
- whether special skill or service has been required and provided
- the amount involved or the value of the subject matter
- the results obtained for the client
- fees authorized by statute or regulation
- special circumstances, such as the loss of other retainers, postponement of payment, uncertainty of reward, or urgency of the matter
- the likelihood, if made known to the client, that acceptance of the retainer will result in the lawyer’s or paralegal’s inability to accept other retainers
- any relevant agreement between the lawyer or paralegal and the client
- the experience and ability of the lawyer or paralegal
- any estimate or range of fees given by the lawyer or paralegal to the client, and
- the client’s prior consent to the fee.
All fees are subject to HST.
We are also accepting legal aid certificate for certain criminal matters.
WHAT ARE DISBURSEMENTS
- Disbursement, or in another word, means expenses. In other words, these are tasks, items, or additional services that our law firm handles on your behalf and are required in order for your matter to be completed and properly closed. Here are some examples:
- Possible disbursements associated with real estate transactions: photocopies, couriers, software, faxes, examining counsel fees, conveyancing, title insurance, abstracts, searches, executions, government registration fees, government land transfer taxes, transaction levy, etc.
- Possible disbursements associated with corporate work: creation and update of minute book, NUANS name search, filing, transaction fee, etc.
- Possible disbursements associate with creation of wills & power of attorney: software transaction fee, storage of original documents, etc.
- It is important to note that other disbursements may be NECESSARY, depending on specific file requirements.
